I quit vidya at the age of 20.
I have a confession to make. The last few years, as a gamer, I've developed a peculiar condition; I became completely disinterested in modern triple-A titles. Instead, I've developed a taste for the specific type of games - indie games, made by small studious, that try to be just as "big" games are. As well just older games in general - for example I've recently played and enjoyed greatly such hits of yore as "Tomb Raider: Angel Of Death" and "Advent Rising". While they may lack in the graphics department, and sometimes have a frustrating gameplay decisions, and, frankly, can be described as "janky", I still find them very endearing - since it's always a product of love and passion. Just yesterday I've found a stand alone Half-Life 2 mod that seems to tick all the boxes for me - it's made by a couple of Chinese dudes, it's some CODesque FPS about Chinese (or may be international, I'm not sure yet) specops set in near future - and it's full of that earnesty that I so struggle to find in the giant corpos products. It's like naive art of gamedev.

Anyone play this? It has been one of the few, if only, games I still bother to play. Been doing it mainly for 6-7 years. Brief rundown: it's a Diablo II-like game so if you're familiar with Diablo II and III, then this could be worth a look. It's free-to-play on Steam and there's also a downloadable client from their website. It's in the ARPG genre and it can be an big time sink. Don't underestimate that.
Game operates on 3-month seasons (called leagues) but I mostly stick with the persistent league. Most players play the 3-month seasons. Anyway I've enjoyed it for its complex character creation while not needing ADD medicine-fueled reflexes that are needed in shooter games. I'd say this is a chill game if you want it to be. Can also be fairly "edge of your seat" depending on build/playstyle choice. Mainly, you need a decent brain to know what's going on with your build.
Its endgame is what hooks you (me) in. Player economy with trading, big map system, lots of bosses to play, and so on.

General Rules:
1. Player housing will be split up into world segments, so all players can maximize resource plundering, in their own segment and limit plundering from other segments.
2. Mobility infrastructure will be built, and players will contribute resources to those who build the infrastructure so it is worth their time.
3. Mechanic manipulation for bosses, logging out to prevent bosses from spawning with large amounts of hp.
Other than that the player is free to do things on their own.

This was a major hit on summer camps I attended, second only to CS1.6 and UT

What's the difference tho? I watched a couple letsplays and stuff on youtube and it looks like the editor still works the same, except that it's also possible besides that to take blocks off the grid if you wish + import your own blocks. Shouldn't be that different building classic tracks. Or are controls in map editor wonky?
I like how it looks. All the different tracks look fun. I always loved playing the snow maps on TMU, getting perfect lines on ice was really satisfactory.
The game otherwise looks like it's a bit of a hybrid between Stadium and Island environment primarily, there's plenty of fast maps as there were on Island as well as classic track. And that fat track with a bump going down the middle is fun, you can cut corners if you're brave by jumping over the edge.
Also it seems that it's possible to make custom environment maps as well? Some custom maps didn't seem to have stadium in background at all.

So I heard that Dark Souls was recently awarded the title "Ultimate Game of All Time" and I feel a strong need to protest: The ultimate game of all time is Rocket League - and that's not just my opinion, that's a fact that anyone with half a brain can clearly see. It's so obvious that I don't even care to elaborate. Thanks for your attention.

Finally this game released.
I've been looking forward to it since 4 ywars and it's the first time since many ywars that I truly enjoy a game and can't leave the monitor.

The soundtrack is also really cool, here from ~1:35 they brought in dissonance by playing the row of overtones of the bass note in the background.

omg YES all these overtones are natural harmonocs on my g string
seems like the composer plays electric guitar
the 7th harmonic is the first tone of the harmonic series to be out of tune compared to its root note and it happens to be the 7th of a normal major scale but a few Hz flat and thus it has its very own unique sound
the next/8th harmonic is then again a 100% in tune clean octave
the 2nd highest note in the audio is the out of tune 7th harmonic
