Israel officially recognizes Somaliland as an independent and sovereign state. It is the first ever nation to recognize Somaliland as independent. Some speculate its connected with the potential deals for expulsion of Gazans into Somaliland territory.

 

I dunno what happens next. US is still supporting Somalia to the point of doing counter-terrorist raids in Puntland. US still supports Somalia against al-Shabaab(terrorists, we condemn them) in other fights. But Israel may push USA to recognize Somaliland officially. What happens next then? Somalia may rely more on other countries in its counter-terrorism activities, but it could be very hard. If US follows Israel, it could be one of those events that break status quo and have cascade effects in the North-Eastern African region.
