real talk tho
why are fuck massive chains like walmart for ex that service thousands of people a day seemingly more well equipped, with their legion of underpaid slobs who would prolly rather be collecting unemployment and are likely totally uninformed or at least ambivalent towards CDC regulations, to keep a place sanitary?
if anything, i could see small businesses taking much more care, as it would be totally on them if anyone got sick there. not only that, but them being small biz means that they would be serving customers on a much much smaller scale, as well as the storefronts themselves being much much smaller and easier to sanitize.
but no, everyone stay inside, and if you need anything, go to your nearest global corporate mega-conglomerate representative and spend all of your stimulus shekels. or even better, dont leave your house at all and order everything from amazon.
how about corner stores? sry achmed, your bodega is too dirty. guess everyones gonna have to go to the 711 down the street.
and restaurants? fuck no
but yall can go through the mcdonalds drive thru and min wage mcdonalds employees are just the gold standard for sanitary, innit?
now im not one to call bullshit/conspiracy on the whole thing, as its clearly just a result of chinks letting animals shit and piss all over one another again until a highly infectious, cross-species novel virus developed again.
but now that its literally everywhere, it does seem to be getting utilized as a way for intl corporations to do a little industrial-revolution-style horizontal expansion
and no doubt, with all the politicians having their eggs in said corporate baskets, they have a very lucrative financial incentive to make sure that any small or even mid-sized competitors stay closed or failing that, heavily restricted for as long as possible.
already near me ive seen the effects
dozens and dozens of small biz are already kil, and likely dozens more will flounder along for another year or so before following suit.
one could argue that this was all for the publics health and safety, but if that were the case, why didnt almost any western govt react until march, when the writing was clearly on the wall in january?
why have so many of the US state/municipal govts allowed massive congregations of """""peaceful protestors"""""?
why didnt they shut down the intl airports? or at least screen for people coming from potentially infected areas?
in the USs case, i think this was all purposefully bungled because they saw an opportunity to get the publics full attention in a general election year. and not only that, but they saw the pandemic as a weapon to use against their political opponents
even after lockdowns were put in place here, there were weeks of pointless politicking back and forth at both state and federal level, trying to make their counterparts look incompetent, all while the situation continued to spiral out of control
now maybe im biased, but after years of seeing absolutely nothing other than total contempt for the lives of the people they govern, i have a really painfully hard time trying to believe that anything thats been done in reaction to this plague has been with the populations well-being at the forefront of the decision-making process
