Well if we're going to be serious about all that shizzle, just buy a gun and learn how to use it (if you haven't done that already) and you're settled. No point in going through all the motions when you have access to the great equaliser (firearms). The point of martial arts, as far as I understand it, is in acquiring bodily control more than just learning how to fight; the latter is largely a redundant skill if you live in a more or less civilised place, and if you don't, chances are you already know how to fight.

What would keep someone from going dancing instead of martial arts if we're talking about bodily control here, something that I barely even know what means to begin with.
What's the distinction between someone doing gymnastics from someone who wants to get into martial arts, if bodily control is the desired outcome of it?
Literally no value whatsoever, it's a bunch of overhyped fluff that doesn't add to the life of a person unless that person is someone who is very retarded to begin with. If you live outside of Japan or another asian country with a flourishing martial arts scene, and if you take it to your heart, then you are a complete and utter fucking moron.
I mean learning how to retain conscious command over your movements and reactions in a situation of physical conflict rather than turning into either frightened monke or full retard berserk, which is what people generally do when the adrenaline hits.
At least this is what the aikidofags I used to hang around with back in high school used to explain to me. Otherwise I pretty much share your attitude towards martial arts, and have never been interested in them.
