That's very true.
But nothing is permanent. You can still get enjoyment out of the months that you enjoy looking at them. And even after that time they don't get less beautiful. You just have to actively remind yourself how pleasant they look.

Forced updates ≠ automatic updates. On Windows you can avoid updates only for so long until you're forced to install it or they install it without your consent anyway. On Linux I can enable automatic updates, if I want, but it's always my choice what packages I update and which I don't. And if something goes wrong, I can easily revert back to a prior version. You can't do that on shitdows.
>Google knows 10-100 times more about us than windows.
Whataboutism. Only because Google is a greater privacy nightmare, doesn't mean Windows it's less bad.
>When I last installed Ubuntu they wanted to force me to make an account with them just to use gui for the package manager.
I have never encountered or heard about this, but yes, Ubuntu gets worse and worse, so I could imagine such a thing happening. Luckily Linux is FOSS and you can just choose one of the many other distros that are out there.
GermanyBernd2023-02-18 13:12:56 · 3yNo. 255797reply
I don't see any problem with forced updates either. Unupdated windows pcs on the internet are a menace to everybody. I don't say that windows data collection is good but these are fights that are already lost.
I would say that your reasons for it are mostly neckbeard reasons. And if you get neckbeard enjoyment out of using Linux that is totally fine.

Sub shop employee gave me a free drink "on the house" because im a "regular"

While i do appreciate the gesture, i am not a fan of sugary beverages so i just said "oh wow thanks" and filled the cup with water.

I am assburgers and do not like these interactions, i prefer to just order online and grab the bag with my name on it, then exchange mild pleasantries with the staff, like i walk in and they say "hi, welcome in" and i say "hi, thanks" then i grab my sandwich from the pickup shelf and they say "have a good day" and i say "thanks, you too"

But apparently they have had issues woth people walking in and stealing online orders so i have to walk up to the cashier and say my name used for the online order to receive my sandwich now. I dont like it.

RussiaSmoking thredaBernd2023-02-16 06:36:15 · 3yNo. 255453reply
When I discovered /int/ for myself, it was in yr. 2013, I used to smoke "Donskoy Tabak" (Don Tobacco) sigs in regular basis, and them costed 18₽ per pack (it was in before-Crimea-annexion times, before sanctions, and before the Ukrainian War, when exchange course was 32₽/1$, so they costed appx 0.6$), and used to smoke Camel Filters when pretended to be like a fancy bernd, they costed 52₽ per pack (appx. 1.6$)
I worked as a forklift operator an my salary was 110₽/hr.(or appx. 3.22$/hr)

Now I smoke some Camel Original Filters (on pic. I bet you can afford them in Russia only, it is NOT the Camel Filters) and they cost 150₽ per pack (after Crimea annexion and war with new exchange course 75₽/1$ it would be 2$ per pack), also you can still afford "Donskoy Tabak" sigs (140₽ per pack, but they became crappy as shit, and a Camel Filters, but they are around 185₽ рer pack - too expensive for poor Bernd).
I still work as a forklift operator and instead of 110₽/hr I get played 150₽/hr. now (but with new exchange course it would be 2$/hr. only)
Considering the fact I smoke 2 packs per day I work for two hours per day only to afford fags, and also I spend 120$/month for sigs only.

How much tobacco cost in your country and how much you need to work to afford it?

I wonder what it takes to like a person. One could argue that you like a person, if you have a positive attitude towards him. But what are the preconditions for such an attitude? What did this person have to do to achieve such a status in your eyes? I think, liking people is essential in life. Typically one builds deep and strong relationships with people they like, sometimes one is too shy to confess that they like someone. I'm curious about the level of intimacy that has to exist to be able to say you like someone. The internet is a very impersonal space, so I think it's hard to build relationships through it. Most if not all people present a certain version of themselves on the internet, maybe it could even be called a mask they hide behind, which makes it incredibly hard or even impossible to determine their true character. So how do we become affected to them through the internet? It is possible to like their mask. In the end it is not possible to distinguish between the mask and the true character as an outsider.
PolandBernd2023-02-17 17:44:00 · 3yNo. 255667reply
there are levels to liking a person, I guess; on the most basic level I think they just need to be friendly towards you; but if they're good to talk to, say interesting things or make you question yourself (and grow as a person as a result) then it's a level up; it helps when they share your values or if they don't then are at least open minded and try to see things your way (even if they disagree; and it should work both ways); I think it's also important if a person is able to argue in a respectful way; I don't know, there's a lot of things that factor into liking people

I'd argue that it's impossible to fully know anyone, even if they don't hide behind a mask, doesn't matter if you interact with them IRL or only over the internet

South-East Asia is quite cheap if you move away from tourist places, I spent something like $5/day for food (for two) and up to $20/day for rent apts, I believe long term stay is even cheaper. Working as an average codemonkey for a year you should be able to afford few years of living there.
I'm not sure I would survive there if I spent 30 years though, I lived there for only three months and I really missed the civilisation in the end...
