By American standards only the Spetsnaz would look scarier.
You use military surplus in policing. That's on a whole 'nother level.
However I would probably rather commit a crime in the US than in the Netherlands.
Over here it's far more industrialised so the bureaucratic process has no lag in efficiency.
Mostly since the Netherlands as port of Europe is a major hub for narcotic industries and human trafficking probably.
There was this story of a bank robbery where they didn't besiege the criminal, but instead allowed him to leave and then tracked him down.
Since it's too small a country to be decentralised and too big to not have a battle-ready police force, it's pretty much as though you have a buffed NYPD. That's how I see it.
Is it any wonder that during the machinations of the Holocaust, 78% of Jews were deported?
It had the highest grossing annihilation of its Jews among all of Western Europe.
Denmark, Italy, France, Belgium, Sweden, Spain, Switzerland are all Western-European nations that worked in some capacity to thwart the extermination of the Jews. The Dutch held a few symbolic strikes at the very beginning of the war... but that was it. It had the most foreigners in the Waffen-SS and had a strong ethnonationalist domestic party and a chauvinistic attitude to foreign Jews.
My point being that the Netherlands is the epitome of a Republic, a State and that it has an incredible capacity for evil deeds as long as they are deemed lawful. Personally I am thankful religion in the Netherlands is dying and that races are mixing, considering the terrible crimes of their forefathers.
That said they also suffered a great deal in urban areas from the starvation campaign by the Germans in the eve of the war's end.
